Seed Cycling Energy Balls - 2 Ways!

Toward the beginning of your cycle from menstruation until ovulation (Follicular days 1-14) the best seeds to eat are ground flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds, whereas during the second half of your cycle (Luteal days 15-28), your hormones are best supported by sunflower and sesame seeds. If you are struggling in perimenopause like I was, seed cycling is an easy and enjoyable way to help balance your hormones and get your cycle back on track. Please note it takes about 3 months of consistency to see benefits. Eat 2 balls each day.

Turmeric Golden Milk Energy Balls (Days 1-14)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup finely shredded unsweetened coconut

  • 1/2 cup walnuts

  • 1/2 cup flaxseed meal

  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

  • 2 tsps round Turmeric

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

  • 2 Tabs pure maple syrup or clover honey

  • 1/3 cup melted unrefined virgin coconut oil

  • 1/3 cup almond butter

  • 1/4 cup grass fed collagen (opt out if vegetarian)

Directions:

PREP TIME: 20-30 MINUTES

TOTAL TIME: 1 HOUR

MAKES: 20 Balls

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a food processor pulse together the coconut, walnuts, flaxseed meals, pumpkin seeds, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and salt until a fine meals forms. Add the maple syrup, coconut oil, almond butter, and collagen if using. Puree until smooth and forming a batter.

Using a small ice cream scoop or melon baller gather batter into balls and roll int your hands until compact and tight. It will be greasy! PLace on parchment lined baking tray and place in the fridge for 20-30 minutes. Then peel off paper and store in an airtight container for up to 1 month.

Chocolate PB Energy Balls (Days 15-28)

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons sunflower seeds

  • 3/4 cup + 2 Tablespoons sesame seeds

  • 2/3 cup toasted shredded coconut (I prefer sweetened!)

  • 2/3 cup natural peanut butter

  • 1/2 cup oats (I prefer sprouted for more protein!)

  • 1/2 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips - use fair life is vegan

  • 1/3 cup honey

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

PREP TIME: 20 MINUTES

TOTAL TIME: 2 HOURS

MAKES: 28 Balls

Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. If its not coming together add more peanut butter! Chill - cover the mixture and refrigerate 1-2 hours. Roll into balls using a small cookie scoop or melon baller. Approx 2 Tab in each ball to get the right amount of seeds and consume 2 each day. Store in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy!
